Each year the Heart of Wisconsin facilitates a leadership event called the ACE Leadership Program.  A key component of the program is a community project. The program typically has two to three group projects within each annual cohort.  Project ideas are generated in a collaborative fashion at the kick-off retreat held in October.  Members of the cohort vote on the various project ideas and the choices are narrowed down to a few, and then members of the cohort are given the opportunity to choose a project.  One of the selected projects for the 2025-2026 ACE Leadership program was to improve the fitness trail around Lake Wazeecha by improving the surface, adding several fitness stations around the trail and determining a way to keep trail access open year round.  Nine individuals within the cohort chose to work on this project, now formally named the Wazeecha Fitness Initiative.
